Job Purpose Information
Main Role:
Operate all types of machine tools to include lathes, drills, milling machines, saws, buffers and grinders to perform the manufacture, rework, modification and repair of aircraft and equipment, parts, assemblies and tools.
Responsibilities:
1. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers or grinders.
2. Setup, adjust and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
3. Fabricate (if required) holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments for mounting parts/materials onto machines.
4. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machine process.
5. Select the appropriate cutting tools and materials required for carrying out the specified machining.
6. Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment in order to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine need for adjustments or repairs.
7. Check work pieces to ensure that they are properly lubricated and cooled.
8. Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency and submit recommendations for improvement.
9. Set controls to regulate machining or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control data.
10. Establish work procedures for fabricating new structural products using a variety of metalworking machines.
11. Deburring parts as required.
12. Collaborate with colleagues and team members to achieve job-specific goals, sharing insight and expertise (General Duty).
13. Perform any other duty assigned by line superior related to the job as needed (General Duty).
